Marriage

Congratulations on making the decision to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church!
Marriage is the Sacrament by which a baptized man and women by their mutual consent establish between themselves a lifelong partnership, with God as their foundation, that is ordered toward the good of both spouses and the procreation of children. The graces bestowed upon the couple during their exchange of consent afford them special helps to fulfill their lifelong commitment to God and to one another.

The marriage formation process at St. Mary is a catechumenate, during which couples enrich their relationship with one another and with Christ while being accompanied by the Parish clergy, staff, and community.

Couples should plan 9-12 months to complete the Marriage Catechumenate. The period of the catechumenate is designed to give each couple time to reflect on marriage as a vocational calling, deepen their relationship and life of prayer, prepare necessary documents, and complete their personalized Catechumenate. The sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved his Church; the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life.
